Though I'm new to the game, I'd like to make a suggestion regarding the GBS, especially the Planetary Assault Section. In the current state, you have to write down the coordinates you'd like to attack from space in order of importance.
However, to me, this is senseless. Every planet has another map, every player may choose another layout for how his facilities, cities, etc pp are built on the surface. So, there can't be a general strategy based on coordinates. If I ever wanted to assault a planet, I'd make sure I have detailed info about the defenses and facilities across the surface and then write a battle strategy for that specific target.
My suggestion is: Remove that section from the GBS or let us list the facilities by names in order of importance (perhaps not that much choices as there are now, reduce them to about 4-6). Those targets would then be attacked in the order of coordinates (first (01/01), then (01/02) and so on). That would allow the strategy to be more flexible while staying general. For the battle strategy, coordinates are still fine, though.

I agree that the GBS should allow a player to list a series of target installations, rather than coordinates.
The assumption being that, if a ship can navigate through space, into orbit, and open fire on a planet...they should at least be able to detect the locations of industrial centers, cities and planetary defenses.
I would limit the GBS to military installations only, though, and then only 2. Once the Battle Strategy comes into effect, you will be able to target those other installations you have scanned.

Um, you can list facility names which is why it's there. I just checked the game manual, and the text doesn't appear under the Generatl Battle Strategy, it does appear under the Battle strategy though. Will be fixed next manual update.

Uhm, just to make things clear. When I open the GBS, I see this: That's because I made this suggestion. If it's already linked in the rules, I apologize

Yeah that's it. You can put facility names (Military Base, Research Lab, Manufacturing Facility, etc..) as generic targets. Your weapons will fire on random positions containing the specified targets. The Game Manual is missing the text in the General Battle Strategy is all, it should mention it but it doesn't.
