Ok, I've gone through the manual, and did a couple searches on the forums (found some neat info about hyperjumping, but that wasn't what I'm looking for ) and i still have this question: when a ship moves, it (the manual) says squares. now, can a ship move to only the 4 squares immediately around it per movement, or is it the full 8 (including the squares on the diagonals). I'm guessing it's the full 8, but I'd like this confirmed for me before i try sending impossible ship move orders ^.~ Thanks for your time. ^^ Edit: also, could a ship say, orbit a planet, scan the planet, move it's 3 SLS, orbit another planet and scan it too? or does orbiting and scanning cost movement?

I'm going to assume your talking about Hyperjump movement here, it wasn't too clear what type of movement your talking about.
The standard HyperDrive engine can travel 3 squares in any direction per turn. However the Hyperjump engines can execute two jumps per turn. This does not mean you can move 6 squares in one go. You must first jump to a system 3 squares away then you can give another Hyperjump command for 3 squares.
Also while we are talking about Hyperjumping....a good bit of advice would be to not jump in a system that you don't have a map for because you never know what could be on the other side. If it's an asteroid field on the other side your ship will suffer some serious damage, if it's a Nebula or a star...the ship is lost
Jumping in 2 squares within a star will also get the ship lost as well as jumping on the ege of the system.
