Assassination Nexus Part 3:
[/b][/u]The news hit Cadeyrn like a ton of bricks. He had just uncovered a conspiracy plot by the Emperor’s advisors and Lord Nabius. When he had seduced the various servants of the palace he had not dreamed that such an information boon would come to him. It was well known throughout the palace that the advisors each had a handful of the servant girls they took to their bed. It is there that powerful men are toppled, trusting that whatever information or grand secret uttered during pillow talk remains there. But women who give themselves so easily to men of power are the last ones that should be trusted. They are not with these men because of physical attraction but because of the attraction to power and credits. In turn these girls can be seduced, if one has the right charm and looks.
Lord Nabius and the advisors had devised a plan to rip the throne away from the Emperor by having him declared incompetent. This was not good news for Cadeyrn, it would mean that he would have to accelerate his own plan. He would need to strike before Nabius and the advisors could, unfortunately time was not on his side. The Empire that he had aligned himself with promised to back his coup with an armada. But they had to be alerted to the change of plans and then it would no doubt take time for the armada to be in position. d**n Nabius and his cronies Cadeyrn thought to himself, once he controlled the Dynasty he would make sure they paid for this. An idea suddenly popped into his head, this idea would present quite a large amount of risk to him, but he had no other choice.
A short time later he was at the Emperor’s door, the guard posted was one of his, loyal to him and his coup. The guard nodded in greeting at Cadeyrn’s arrival and opened the Emperor’s door. When Cadeyrn entered the Emperor’s chamber he noticed the Emperor was sitting at a large desk writing feverishly in his journal. Upon hearing Cadeyrn approach the Emperor stopped his writing and turned to face his visitor.
“Cadeyrn! How are you today my boy? Is it not your day off?” the Emperor asked.
“Yes it is Emperor, but I have some urgent news I must deliver to you.”
“Well go on then, spit it out.”
“One of the servant girls has revealed to me that a conspiracy has been hatched by your Advisors and Lord Nabius. They seek to have you deemed incompetent and take the throne from you.”
The Emperor seems flustered at this revelation, after a moment he recovers and his face flushes with anger.
“Thank you Cadeyrn, your family has been extremely loyal to me. I will not forget it. I shall have my advisors executed immediately. However I cannot make any violent action against Nabius. For this I need you your help. I need you to hire a bounty hunter to kill Nabius, then he’ll be out of my hair for good. Can I trust this task to you Cadeyrn?”
“I will do as you ask my Emperor.” Cadeyrn replied
“Good. Now leave me, I have much work to do.”
Things had gone better than Cadeyrn had expected, the following day all six advisors were publicly executed for treason. The Bounty Hunter Cadeyrn had hired was bound to arrive any minute. Everything was falling into place, he had covertly signaled his allies to prepare their armada ready. He had informed the guards at the front gate to bring the hunter to him upon arrival. Once Lord Nabius was taken care of Cadeyrn would strike along with his allies to take the throne from the Emperor before he can acquire more advisors that could get in the way. The sound of footsteps coming from the hallway grew louder and Cadeyrn turned to face the door and was stunned when the bounty hunter entered the room, the hunter was not what he had expected, she was an incredibly beautiful woman and Cadeyrn found himself greatly attracted to her. No doubt she used her looks to get the kill many times. She would indeed be the perfect assassin for Lord Nabius.
“Welcome to the palace miss…” Cadeyrn said extending his hand towards the Bounty Hunter.
“The name’s Asani.” The woman replied as she shook his hand. He recoils immediately as a sharp pain runs up his arm and explodes through his chest. He looks down at his hand; a puncture wound could now be seen on his palm, the pain intensifies in his chest. He looks up at Asani in confusion and sees that she has a smile plastered on her face.
“You know you really made my job easier. When I took the bounty on you, I didn’t know how I was going to sneak into the Imperial Palace to do the job. But lucky for me you contacted the Bounty Office I work for looking to place a bounty on someone. The fates are not on your side.” Asani said as she pulled out a large serrated knife.
Cadeyrn stumbles backwards his knees buckling, he attempts to speak, fear unmistakable in his eyes.
“You can’t talk because I injected you with a light neuro-toxin. Can’t have you alerting the guards now can I.”
Asani steps forward knife drawn ahead of her, Cadeyrn fumbles with his right arm, Asani thrusts forward with the knife but is stopped by a blaster bolt from Cadeyrn’s wrist. The blaster bolt hits Asani dead in the stomach sending her sprawling backwards. She had not noticed the mini-blaster strapped to Cadeyrn’s wrist. Asani shook the cobwebs from her head and struggles to her feet as Cadeyrn attempts to escape but his legs won’t cooperate and begins to fall forward. Asani now back on her feet thrusts the knife deep into Cadeyrn’s gut, the knife effortlessly glides through his body and severs the spinal cord. He collapses into an embrace with Asani, blood begins to drip out of his mouth, Asani twists the blade and jerks it upwards before pulling it out as she pushes Cadeyrn away and he slumps to the floor. Asani examines the wound on her stomach, thankfully it’s not serious, the blaster must not have been a very powerful one. Asani leaned over to make sure Cadeyrn was dead, these days you never know who’s been enhanced with robotic parts. Once she was satisfied that he was indeed dead, she knew the hard part was about to begin. She had never before been asked to bring back the whole body to get paid. Most clients were content with pictures of the body, but this client wanted the entire body. This of course would cause a significant amount of trouble for Asani. She surely would be caught if she tried to haul the body out the front door of the palace. Asani had planned her escape perfectly, but you never know when something will come along to screw up your plan. She had arranged for one of her contacts to disengage the dampening field around the palace that prevented teleportation in or out. Asani looks at her chronometer, ten seconds, cutting it a little close she tells herself. She had told her contact to disengage the field 10 minutes after she entered the palace. Once the field was down the contact would signal Asani’s ship in orbit that would begin the teleportation process re-directing the stream to over 40 other locations on the planet before re-materializing Asani and the body on the ship. Asani hoped that this method would slow down any tracking techniques used, by the time they figured out the teleport was to a ship in orbit she would be long gone. Her chronometer beeped signaling the process was about to begin. A blue beam of light appears and encircles Asani and Cadeyrn’s body, an instant later both are gone.
